Ok, this is so off topic for the OT, but, I need help! I have a 1yr old’s birthday party to go to on Saturday. I need suggestions for a CHEAP gift. I was looking online at $10 toys at Target…think that’s too cheap?
It was in 2001, when Brooklyn real estate was booming. I met with an agent and he took me to three houses, but I remember two of them were in contract, with the exception of Hancock.
The house had a tenant and I was very adamant that I didn’t want to purchase a house with a tenant, especially one who was just paying $400 a month. They promised that the house would be delivered vacant.
The house needed work and they were going to do the work. I signed the contract and gave a deposit of $10k. Months went by and the tenant was still in the house, no repairs had taken place and I was fed up. I demanded to meet with them (at that time their office was on Hanson Place). They basically said they were unable to evict the tenant and they would be willing to pay me $1,000 a month to subsidize the tenant’s rent for a year. My lawyer also promised to help me in the eviction proceeding, of course at a fee.
I was in love with this house, I already saw myself living there, enjoying the backyard, etc. Thank God I had the fortitude to say “hell no!” I demanded my money back and got my money two days later. Don’t get me wrong, I spent the entire Labor Day weekend in tears…then 9/11 happened and it put everything in perspective…..albeit, I ended up buying a Fedder special, but that’s a different story. Sorry for being so long winded.
Yeah someone told me that unemployment rate is something like 25% in Italy (not sure how true that is) so getting rid of illegal immigration is one way to battle that I guess.
France, Germany and UK are way worse from what I understand as well.

Up to you Snappy, let me know if you change your mind later on in the day.

DIBS – I tried the Marconi hotel, it was very good. breakfast in bed overlooking the Rialto. Thanks for the tip.
I’ll probably be there earlier than 7:00 but I have to stop by the Frame Shop nearby first.
Kens…I don’t think the rest of Europe is as insular. That said, they already have more problems…France for example, and the UK
Thanks Kens….but I won’t know for sure until late…
