The big news this week is that the Carroll Gardens institution Joe’s Superette is closing after 50+ years in the neighborhood, according to Pardon Me for Asking. Due to an illness, the store is being emptied out and the prosciutto balls will be no more….such sad news for the neighborhood. PMFA also notices Dandelion Boutique on Court Street is shuttering, and BoCoCaLand writes about a new pediatrics practice opening at 300 Court Street, in Cobble Hill.
Crown Heights
An old-school ice cream parlor for Franklin Avenue? Yup! The blog I Love Franklin Avenue reports that 733 Franklin (at Sterling) will be an ice cream and candy shop with event space in back. It should be open this summer. Meanwhile, ILFA notes that Breukelen Coffee House, also on Franklin, has opened up their multi-purpose back room. And we noticed an opening date has been posted at the new spot on Washington Avenue called Janelle’s, plus the signage for Skazzy Cafe has mysteriously disappeared!
Williamsburg/Greenpoint
Eater reports that Lobster Rolls are coming to Greenpoint. The lobster roll shack is opening up in the old Lamb & Jaffy space on Manhattan Avenue sometime next month and New York Shitty has some interior shots. She also reports it will be called ‘The Lobster Joint’ and will open May 25th. Free Williamsburg wonders if something has happened to Mexicue and also reports on the opening of the Metropolitan Avenue Bagelsmith.
Park Slope
Dumplings and Things is open, reported a very excited FIPS. Who’s been? There’s a good review so far via Brooklynian. And HPS checks out the Blueprint Cocktail Bar (which should be open around June) and a new french cafe coming to 475 Seventh Avenue.
After the jump, a fire and an opening on Atlantic Avenue, F+S Tires reopens for now, and more…
Catania opened on Atlantic Avenue, reports Brooklyn Heights Blog; it’s a new Sicilian place operating in the former Reginella Pizza spot. Also on Atlantic, Malia Mills Swimwear was temporarily closed after a fire. In Downtown Brooklyn Brooklyn Eagle attends the grand opening of Ashley Stewart’s 2,800-square-foor Fulton Mall flagship store at 458 Fulton Street. In Prospect Lefferts Gardens, PLOG notices that the discount empire Phat Albert may be closing and Ditmas Park Blog writes up a new patient-centric medical office in Dumbo. Finally, Patch reports the potentially good news that Fort Greene’s F+S Tire Shop is back in biz… but they still have a hearing with city officials in July due to violations.
> the signage for Skazzy Cafe has mysteriously disappeared!
Here’s hoping they have rethought their unfortunate name.
Uncle Louie’s in Bay Ridge opened this weekend! WOOOOOOHOOOO!
Man, Lobster rolls just as I’m leaving. They’d better open up sharpish!
