Coney Island
Coney Island’s Siren Festival is no more, after a whole ten years. The Village Voice reports that the festival is moving to the South Street Seaport and changing its name to the “4Knots Music Festival.” Bummer to see it cross the river. Elsewhere in lower Brooklyn, Sheepshead Bites reports that two pizza joints have been seized in Sheepshead Bay.
Carroll Gardens
PMFA notices a new tutoring center in Carroll Gardens taking over the space above Pranga Books. She also spots a new falafel bar moving into 200 Court, the old Serene Rose space. Seems like a really nice addition to the neighborhood, no? Finally, Carroll Gardens favorite Jake Walk has launched brunch, reports Grub Street.
Food Truck Watch
Last week we were bummed Alan Harding’s Hot Bird food truck was no more, now Grub Street spills that Hot Bird owners will open their own “sausage-slinging shipping container.” The small shipping container, complete with an electric griddle, will serve sausages for $6 to $7 a pop, with food service expected to start between six weeks and two months from now. A tipster also noticed a new food truck pop up in Fort Greene at Carlton and Dekalb. It was serving up tacos.
Park Slope
From Here’s Park Slope: the much-anticipated grand opening of Housing Works, the official opening of Der Kommissar (we gave you a look inside last week), the opening of the hiking and camping gear shop Gear to Go Outfitters, and a peek at the soon-to-be PetCo.
Wondering what was happening to the old Jodi Arnold space in Downtown Brooklyn, at 347 Atlantic? Racked reports next door designer Steven Allen is expanding. “The plan is to separate women’s and men’s clothing, devoting one store to each. There won’t be a through-way from one shop to the other, but since they sit right next to each other, it’s as if the whole shop is doubling in size,” says Racked. It will be open in about a week.
After the jump, openings in Crown Heights, Bushwick, and Bed Stuy….plus speculations and protests happening in Fort Greene.
Crown Heights
Nostrand Park reports very excitedly that Bob and Betty’s, the new grocery store on Franklin Avenue, has opened. Anybody been? Also, up in Bed Stuy VoDou Bar had soft opening, according to Patch. And even further up in Bushwick, Bushwick BK tells us that Cafe Ghia is serving brunch every day on Irving Avenue.
Fort Greene
Fort Greene-Clinton Hill Patch has some speculation about what sort of business might replace Moe’s if the Fort Greene bar closes down at the end of next month: The owner of Adelphi Street’s Hideout says he’s going to open a higher-end spot called Nevada in the space. However, a manager for Moe’s says the bar might stay in place if it reaches an agreement with its landlord. And The Local covers the protest of shuttering the F+H Tire Shop.
Bob & Betty’s is the same owner and location as Fisher’s Market, although fully renovated. So “new” is slightly misleading.
Since when are Atlantic and State sts part of “Downtown Brooklyn.” Whatever happened to Boerum Hill?!?!? Gotta get these tags right!
well for what it’s worth i only looked at one thing and i thought it was seriously overpriced. it was some metal sculpture thing with a bunch of glass balls in it. it was like 150 bux or something? are the clothes cheaper?

The Park Slope housing works does have kids stuff. It’s in the back near the dressing rooms.
The prices are great! Bought some stuff there this weekend. Very happy to have them in the neighborhood.
Rob, you’d think a 99 cent store is obscenely overpriced.
Ass fungus, is that a medical term?
A La Crepe just opened in the base of the 80 DeKalb space, the first of the stores to open there. It looks yummy, although I was rushing to work this morning and didn’t have time to try it. I am psyched for Smash Burger and Brooklyn Bagel Works to open in that building as well, we’re finally seeing some life in that retail strip!
i didnt see baby clothes in there… but i wasnt really looking for them. i was also pleasantly surprised the joint didnt stink like ass fungus like so many thrift stores do.

I was told up at the Brooklyn Heights Housing Works store that the Park Slope store would sell baby/children’s clothes.
Good idea!
Housing Works rocks. Some of my favorite furniture and artwork have come from there.
