Downtown Brooklyn
Blogs have been abuzz with the expansion of the Dekalb Market, which is happening October 15th. Also the market has welcomed a few new vendors, including Jacques Torres, The {New New} Etsy, a collective of handmade artists, and Pip & Estella, a home decorating shop.
Williamsburg
Blackbird Parlour, which Eater calls a “cute, rustic Williamsburg coffee shop” seems like it is shuttered for good. It closed last month, was opened by new owners, and then closed again. New York Shitty sees that Spice Garden opens today on Grand Street. A five seat hair salon called Pelo has just opened at 269 Manhattan Avenue, writes Daily Candy. And life:curated, a homegoods store at 186 Grand Street, gets the spotlight treatment by Here’s Williamsburg.
Park Slope
Checks & More Check Cashing closed at 205 Fifth Avenue, says Here’s Park Slope. Culture FroYo is temporarily shuttered due to water damage. Ricky’s Costume Store is open at 550 5th Ave, and the pet food and supply store 4 and a Tail IS dunzo on 7th.
Elsewhere
The commercial space at 1600 Beverly Road has been rented in Ditmas Park; Ditmas Park Blog hears it will be built out for some doctors. The Fountain Cafe has reinvented itself as “Mocha,” a restaurant-cafe and hookah bar in Brooklyn Heights. And Hinsch’s, Bay Ridge’s old-school Fifth Avenue soda fountain between 86th and 85th streets, is sadly closing, reports Brooklyn Paper. The family left a note that read: “Current economic conditions, customers changing eating patterns, and our desire to retire early have led us to this decision. We thank all of our customers for your business and appreciate your support and loyalty. We will miss serving you.”
