Today in blizzard finger-pointing: “Selfish Sanitation Department bosses from the snow-slammed outer boroughs ordered their drivers to snarl the blizzard cleanup to protest budget cuts — a disastrous move that turned streets into a minefield for emergency-services vehicles, The Post has learned. Miles of roads stretching from as north as Whitestone, Queens, to the south shore of Staten Island still remained treacherously unplowed last night because of the shameless job action, several sources and a city lawmaker said, which was over a raft of demotions, attrition and budget cuts.” The subject line of the email from a reader yesterday morn that included this photo: “This is Fulton street?”

  1. Dave, if you think that company’s don’t maintain wage levels and benefits at a level just high enough to make unionization seem unnecessary to the majority of their workers, then…in your words…you’re just a fool.

  2. smeyer – “BTW be careful about making municipal unions illegal. Because what you will do is make the employees more politically active as they are in some countries like Italy and the UK and we know how well their national strikes work…”

Fine, good- thats what democracy is all about -political activity (although municipal strikes would still be illegal in many places like NYC and “national” strikes make no sense in a country with tens of thousands of municipalities) but the REASON municpal unions should be illegal is precisely because they can organize and effect change through the political process (rather than labor relations)

  3. Comparing the lies and biases of Fox to those of other media outlets is just silly. The Journal’s editorials are right wing crap but their non-editorial writing is typically strong. Similar case with the Times etc. The problem with Fox is that their bias and hate mongering permeates absolutely everything they do and say.

  4. In tech land, the most profitable companies in the country, there are no unions. People have wonderful jobs, get paid, share in profits. Unions are a crutch for the lazy and the ignorant these days.

If you believe there’s going to be child labor and 80 hour work weeks if unions to disappear (they have in many industries) then you’re just a fool.

  5. “YES, it’s always the conservative blogs and papers that do the lying.

Typical left wing conspiracy theory crap.”

ok. Fox = NY Times. whatever. if you don’t want to see it, nothing i say will make a difference.

another factor in all of this is that there were abandoned cars all over the roads — at least in my neighborhood. but whatever. UNIONS ARE EVIL. anyone have a pitchfork?

  6. BTW be careful about making municipal unions illegal. Because what you will do is make the employees more politically active as they are in some countries like Italy and the UK and we know how well their national strikes work…
