An Italian restaurant called Gancio Rosso opened on the corner of Commerce and Van Brunt streets last week in Red Hook. The menu was still be finalized when we stopped by, so we don’t have a concrete sense of prices, but according to Gancio Rosso’s Facebook page, the fare consists of “homemade rustic Italian food at affordable prices.” There’s a version of the menu on the business’ website showing it will have antipasti, pastas, pizzas and entrees that include short ribs and eggplant parm. The owner told us he’s worked at a bunch of different Brooklyn restaurants, including Henry’s End. This stretch of Van Brunt doesn’t get a tremendous amount of foot traffic, even for Red Hook, so it will be interesting to see if the new venture is a success. The space was briefly occupied last year by a deli that kept irregular hours. Click through for a shot of the restaurant’s interior.
