Ultraviolet, the club on 7th Street and 3rd Avenue that’s been in the works for about a year and a half, is nearing completion. The large lounge, which will have bars and DJ booths on three separate floors, has an impressive pedigree—one of the owners of the East Village’s popular but now defunct Save the Robots is behind the venture—and it’s on the same block as the Bell House. The space looks almost finished (no interior picture-taking is allowed, unfortunately, but it’s pretty slick). The owners are waiting on a final city inspection and their liquor license, so it’ll probably open within the next 3 to 6 months. GMAP

  1. DH,
You haven’t really lived until you’ve been to the Pyramid and had Danny the Pony Boy ask if you wanted a ride.

    CarrollGardened,
I am sure Kiev is still there but those days are long over me.

  2. Speaking of clubs, hard as it may be to believe now, Hard Rock Cafe was one of the “go to” spots c.1984. The lines used to stretch around the block and around again. There were red velvet ropes in front. A friend finally got me a Hard Rock Gold Card – you couldn’t charge anything with it, but you flashed it at the door and they let you right in without having to wait in line.

  3. dh, it was fun and “democratic”, all you needed was a fun risky attitude and a little originality and a little cash (sometimes just flirtation got you into a club). None of this bottle bar($200 yikes).

  4. “dancing at 6:30 AM especially since I could have sworn it had been only 1:00 AM five minutes before”

I don’t remember dirt under the nails, but I do remember entire nights passing in only a matter if minutes. I love Kiev – isn’t it still there?

  5. CarrollGardened,
When you came out of Robots did you have lots of dirt under your fingernails? I could never quite figure that out. It would get in one’s too. Besides the glaring sunlight there were also plenty of times when I would look at my watch and wonder wth I was doing in a sandfilled basement dancing at 6:30 AM especially since I could have sworn it had been only 1:00 AM five minutes before.

And there was always Kiev for early (very) morning pierogis to help sop up the alcohol.
