Our tip that Jolie is moving from Atlantic Avenue to the long-empty storefront at Smith and Douglass was confirmed at this week’s CB6 meeting. The potentially bad news for Atlantic Avenue residents is that it’s not part of an expansion, and the space at 320 Atlantic will be shuttering outright. Jolie’s menu won’t carry over to Smith Street, however: The owner said he’s planning to serve French fare with a Mexican influence. The board’s Economic Development Committee approved the new outpost for both a wine and beer license as well as a sidewalk cafe.

There was a restaurant a few years back at that location that had two French partners and one Mexican partner. Its was called Banania. I ate their many times and enjoyed the restaurants tasty and reasonably priced food. I missed that place when it closed. I wonder if it’s the same partners? By the way, Maximillian was a Austrian that was backed by Napoleon. Although most of the people of Mexico are of Amerindian descent, there are people of many other descents living in there. For example, Salma Hayek, the actress, and Carlos Slim, the media mogul billionaire, are both Mexicans of Lebanese descent.
The only reason I really went here was for the steak tartare, the Wednesday $1.00 oysters and the cheese plate for dessert. If none of that survives, it will be a loss and likely not to succeed, especially as “French-Mexican.”
The space at 320 Atlantic may be “shuttering” but it will only be temporary, as CB2 will be reviewing a “new full on-premise” liquor application for an entity called “Food Ink – 320 Atlantic Avenue” at its next meeting:
DATE: Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Anyone ever hear about “Food Ink?”
neilw: Cinco de Mayo will be awkward, huh?
Hmm – well, the last French intervention into Mexico didn’t end well, but perhaps there’s some good food that can still come out of this. Always found Jolie to be pretty high quality, so there’s hope.
somebody email DIBS with the news.
mexican influence would be the staff.
So why finally is this corner being rented? seems to have been sitting in limbo as maybe some legal dispute going on.
I hear they hated their landlord on atlantic and also they wanted to do something different bar will be larger i hope… Ben and team cool
i wonder what it is actually….. hey, Jolie pretty good, so might be something terrific, like those cocktail mixes that look weird but taste great
“The owner said he’s planning to serve French fare with a Mexican influence.”
that sounds gross.
