As usual, Emperor Bloomberg responded in his normal testy (some might call it bitchy) way whenever anyone questions his authority, decisions, or, well, anything. He gave a huge gift at public expense to one of his fellow billionaires and we’ll all be paying for it for the rest of our days. What does the emperor care? He’s never coming to Brooklyn. We’ll be left for years with a giant George Foreman grill, a piece of crap “public” plaza, some few luxury apartments, and a giant parking lot. You think that THIS time Ratner will remember to include some escalators to bring people from underground to street level?
As to teenagers congregating in groups in this new plaza, as Leticia says, if it’s public, how could they legally be stopped? What about groups of kids walking down Flatbush Avenue waiting for the light to change? Ticket them? Give them juvenile records for illegal congress? Bloomberg, Marty, Ratner, et al are all turds.
If not the most humane, certainly the most efficient – and the inevitable Holocaust comparisons did nothing for anyone’s image.
I think if you really researched you would find that is the humane way. Perhaps just bothers some emotionally.
I agree, Canada geese are (were) an invasive, annoying presence in the Park, and I, too, have noticed many more ducks since the geese were removed. It’s refreshing. That said, the manner in which this was accomplished and the reason for it (to prevent plane crashes, really? Most of those overfed creatures were too fat to fly more than a few yards) were horrific. I don’t blame the Park for this, as it is a Federal program, and the Park had no choice, but why the Park didn’t get rid of them earlier (and more humanely) to preserve and protect the native species already living there is beyond me.
Bloomberg comparing AY to Central and Prospect Parks is beyond stupidity – unless we’re all going to be invited into all the buildings for free all the time. Wouldn’t that be great? Want to go play some hoops? There’a really cool arena down in Prospect Heights, with great locker rooms and luxury boxes so your family and friends can cheer you on. Or bring your laptop to some of the free office space and work away from home/the Tea Lounge. Finally, why not cook a great dinner with friends in one of the kitchens of all these new free apartments?
rf- i already posted on that one. Who is the new troll, OG?
Morning all. 🙂
stupid Brooklyn paper article on the geese. They make themselves sound stupid.
rf, so look how much money saves you if won’t let daughter into the mall.
If we’re going to hijack a thread, the collapsed-ceiling one looks perfect.
They finally deigned to post the OT. Says 9:20 but Slopey called it at 9:43. >>>
