We don’t have a choice, dittoburg. Crown Heights can’t afford to let the City shove it around any longer. Although there is more money and political clout here than many people would guess, City government has become less and less willing to listen to communities that they don’t perceive as having the kind of cachet (for lack of a better word) that Brooklyn Heights or Park Slope are seen to have.
I blame Bloomberg for the elitist shift in city planning that has become so rampant in the last few years. Like Marie Antoinette insisting we eat cake. Not that I mind eating cake but Bloomberg is a shameless promoter of the interests of corporate America over the needs or wants of the community. The Times has an interesting article in the op-ed section- “The Corporate Free Ride” although I’m sure everyone one brownstoner has already read it 🙂
I totally agree MM. I’m really looking forward to that day!!!
Faithful, once again we were in the same room, or same event, and still haven’t been introduced to each other. We have to both agree to wear the same colors or something next time. 😉
Whoops, you are right, faithful. I beg Monday morning indulgences.
September 19th is the correct day.
I wish my own community was as motivated.
MM,
What state hearing tomorrow? I thought that was 9/19. I agree that Errol Lewis did a great job along with the NY Sun and Times. Let’s try and keep this alive, so that it doesn’t get put on the back burner.
Ditto on Errol Lewis. Nashak’s performance at the community board meeting was indeed poorly planned, poorly run, and a raised finger of distain to our community. I truly think he was shocked at the temerity of us not just accepting or endorsing the party line.
Next stop, the state hearing tomorrow morning.
And a big thanks to Errol Lewis for his article. His advice is already being looked into.
guess the purpose was to save williamsburg from becoming a mall or something
