Thanks for the compliments, everyone! If you check out the details on my photostream (click on the link to my name in the post above then look for “More Properties” in the lower right-hand corner), you’ll see I’m using a 50mm lens at an aperture of 2.8, which is wide open as Randolph above suggests. It results in a very narrow depth of field, which is why the perspective is the way it is.
Goldie – I don’t know what camera you’re using, but I can’t recommend the 50mm f1.4 lens I used enough. It’s wonderful, albeit completely manual on my Nikon D40.
Have a great day!
The shape of the bokeh is determined by the number and shape of the blades in the shutter. Looking at the light-colord dot in the doorway in the background, it looks octogonal, which would indicate a lens with 8 blades.
except that should usually result in octogonal bokeh, this is more roundedand overlapping.
i’ll chalk it up to a bit of photoshopping.
Re the photo’s shallow focus- it’s called depth of field and you get it with either a long lens or a wide open apparure setting, or maybe in this case a macro setting on a dslr.
jilly, want to know what you did to take that.
the bokeh is unlike anything i got from my lenses. i love it, just curious as to the settings. going to glacier nat’l park soon and any enhancements appreciated.
Indeed. Great shot.
Great photo!
