Mexican For Union Smith Cafe
Last week Pardon Me For Asking noticed that the Union Smith Cafe, which was recently shut down by the DOH, has closed for good. At first she heard the place was going to be replaced with Italian, but more recently it was confirmed that a Mexican restaurant would be moving in instead. Good fit? GMAP

plenty of italian already in the area
the place/menu for before Union was good, too bad that is gone they need a margarita, ALMA, bar scene with very good food
the deli on hoyt and atlantic has great mexican food.
as far as mexican on smith – only thing I can think of is that oaxaca or something place that sells tacos or whatever. Small and not a full restaurant.
There was a mexican near Baltic on Smith that is gone.
(the 1st attempt was horrible – but then changed hands and was good but didn’t last).
So will be good to have one – Mezcal’s on Atlantic is now gone too. But hope this in not some corporate restaurant but instead someone starting out on his own.
I second that Pacifico is NASTY. I think a good Mexican place with an outdoor area would be perfecto.
Hope it becomes like an italian small plates wine and cheese kind of place. That’s what the neighborhood really needs.
OOOOH.. That place should be Mexican — just has the vibe. And we need it (still mourning for Heche). Dos Comninos would be great but I think that they would be more interested in being closer to Barney’s (yuk). They have that whole corporate cool thing going…
Oh and same goes for Lobo on Court, which I also thought was pretty gross.
Yay! I think that’s an excellent use for that space.
