McDonald's on Tillary Closes!
We received word through a tipster yesterday that the McDonald’s at 169 Tillary Street, a long-time fixture in Downtown Brooklyn, had closed. We received word through a tipster yesterday that the McDonald’s at 169 Tillary Street, a long-time fixture in Downtown Brooklyn, had closed. Sure enough, that was the case when we went by this morning. According to signs up in the windows, the fast food giant lost its lease after, we’re guessing, 20 years. The property does not appear to have changed hands recently nor have any new building permits been applied for. Anyone know what the plan is? Is the demise of McD’s good news or bad news for BKLYN Gold marketing efforts? GMAP
I work near Tillary St. and was wondering who patronized this place, as there is a McD’s on Court St. I believe. Ringo’s anecdote about car traffic using this place answered my question, and I wonder how it could have lasted on that as I observe (unscientifically of course) that the Court St. place is much preferred.
im not a snobby fast food hater at all, but i will have to admit anytime ive ever eaten mcdonalds i felt really really gross afterwards. not like sick gross, but just like totally icky inside? does that make any sense? and it’s not like i even ate anything more than a dollar cheeseburger and some fries.
*rob*
FSRG;
Believe it or not, in the 5 years I’ve lived in the area, I’ve never tried that Mickey D’s (even though McDonald’s is my favorite fast-food burger joint). The reason is that about 15 years ago I was driving back from Manhattan after visiting my wife in the hospital. I was hungry and so stopped there for a meal. It was the single worst food experience I’ve ever had in my life.
Perhaps they’ve improved since then, but I was never tempted to find out.
I wonder if the McDonalds marketers have compiled a profile of their typical customer through focus groups: Likes to litter, rob fast food places, drive…
RAMBO, not Flattery chrishavens.
Now THAT’S what I call gentrification!!!
how many times did I stop at that McDonalds before getting onto the BQE for a trip to the beach or up 95? a bazillion? and how many times did I wait 25 minutes for a cup of coffee that was undrinkable? every damn time. that place made me feel like a moron for giving them one more shot over and over again.
Benson – I’d take the litter for the convenience of getting an easy McDs fix….but the problem with that McDonalds is that it gets robbed like every other month (seems a bit better the last yr or so) and I walk by it so much I know its only a matter of time before I get caught in the “action”
The “Golden Arches” aren’t the kind of bling “BKLYN Gold” is looking for, I guess.
