A long-time reader (and fig tree grower) sent this in yesterday: “I thought your viewers might enjoy our latest attempt to foil the mosquito menace that plaques our borough every summer. We bought a 30″ air king industrial fan for our porch. Hopefully our kids wont lose any fingers!” Any other tactics readers have been using to fight the war on skeeters?

  1. Total Mosquito Warfare:

    1. Either EcoSmart or Cutter backyard hose spray (which you can spray onto neighboring trash dumps, if necessary). It’s mosquito napalm.
    2. ThermaCell mosquito repellent lamps (these things work like 99.9%!) as a perimeter around patio
    3. Mosquito larvacide dunks in any standing water regions that can’t be emptied (like a neighbor who lets a stagnant pond collect in their broken concrete patio – or roof gutters – toss in a dunk)
    4. Mosquito Magnet running during peak summer to take the overall population down (use both octenol and lurex lures at the same time for best results)
    5. Finally, personal bug spray on body.

May test out the industrial fan this summer if it gets bad enough!
