Last Thursday was the Greene Grape’s official Click, Uncork, and Gobble tasting. On the menu: six wines they sell together in the All-American Six Pack and a full deep-fried turkey dinner, complete with green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and yams (the really sweet kind, with marshmallows). All this would make a fine Thanksgiving dinner, which is probably why the Grape is teaming up with Jive Turkey and selling it as a package for $250. Considering that deep-frying a turkey without lighting yourself or your house on fire requires a great deal of outdoor space that most apartment dwellers probably don’t have, getting a really juicy one from the folks over at Jive Turkey isn’t a bad idea at all.
As for the wines, the Jigsaw Pinot Noir ($17, or part of the six-pack) being poured was an especially nice, kind of fruity complement to the food. The store itself has an incredible selection of mid-range wines; it looked like about half the racks were lined with $10-$15 bottles.
Around 6pm, the store got a special visit from Marty Markowitz. He tasted all six wines and boasted of being the only politician ever to be featured in Wine Spectator magazine. (This seems a little unlikely, but we have to take his word for it. We aren’t borough presidents.) He also wasted no time in officially declaring it Greene Grape and Jive Turkey Thanksgiving Dinner and Wine Tasting Day in Brooklyn. Check them out while we try fitting that one on a Hallmark card.
