On Monday the most hyped Brooklyn restaurant opening of the moment will become a reality when Cafe de La Esquina at Wythe Diner starts welcoming patrons in Williamsburg. Two of the original partners of Nolita’s La Esquina are opening the eatery in the former Relish space on the corner of Wythe and North 3rd, which will now have three distinct zones: The casual diner section up front, the more formal dining room in back, and a garden space. The Feast has a walk-through of the restaurant and an interview with the owners in which they say the back room is meant to be “transporting” and that they hope the garden area—click through for a photo of it—becomes a neighborhood destination.

  1. la esquina is in nolita but the scene has always been pure soho house type superficiality. it doesn’t seem to fit. i guess they’re going for a mopey-hipster secretary tatoo heineken-ad kind of superiority play. i think i just had a seizure envisioning that.
