What a quick turnaround. We wrote about Corduroy Kid closing shop at 613 Vanderbilt on July 20th, and now a new kids clothing store is already setting up its window display! The new place is called Livie and Boo, and as far as we can tell the new store doesn’t have a web presence. From the display, the store looks to be in the same vein as its predecessor.

  1. I had the exact same experience as alibaba at Livie & Boo. I used to go into Corduroy Kid all the time on Vanderbilt — was friends with a girl who worked there, and didn’t know that the store had closed. I went in to inquire and new owner was very snooty and practically downright rude to me. I was pretty bummed as it looks like a nice store that I would go back to if she would be a bit more friendly.

  2. alibaba – Are you talking about the same Livie & Boo?!? I find it difficult to believe that you are. I’ve been to Livie & Boo several times, and I’ve always been greeted with a warm smile and friendly hello. The owners are great. In fact, I happened to be there September 11th – their grand opening (same day you say you were there). If the fact that they had free cookies and milk, a great face painter, kids’ yoga, and a kids’ sing-along isn’t enough to welcome you, then maybe you should stay home. Making derogatory comments about someone’s character is not cool, especially when you have no idea what you are talking about. Hope your child doesn’t follow your example.

  3. Stopped by there today, the owner is most unwelcoming. Didn’t say hi, didn’t even paid any attention to my kid, basically completely ignored us. I don’t understand why somebody so cold and unhappy would open a store… Please do yourself a favor, take a class or two, it will do you lots of good Chantal.

    Good luck, you’ll need it.

  4. I did a post about this store and interviewed the owner: here is the full scoop with photos of the store:

The new store is named after owner Chantal’s daughter Olivia (called Livie for short) and her dog, Bailey boo (a white westie). It offers “nearly new” (gently used) clothes for kids 0-6 years and new toys; mostly educational and wooden ones. Chantal did visual merchandising for Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters and Burberry so she obviously knows how to create a good look. Interior photos of the shop show a great eye and attention to detail.

  5. Wow, lots of innacurate chatter. Perhaps our writer could have taken the time to find out that this new shop is full of freshly laundered, pre-loved, well edited super cute clothing for boys and girls – that’s really affordable. The owner is a mom of a 4 year old girl and has a little westie (hence the name of the shop, it’s their nicknames). She lives in the area and just wants to offer the kind of fun place, practical but adorable stuff (plus good value) she’s been looking for…

  6. Thanks Heather! AREA Kids does try to be the best.

People love to hate on us kids stores as overpriced, bla bla bla….. but I really try to have affordable & fun things in the store that are NOT too precious.

I personally hate all that overpriced stuff….6 YEARS ago when I started my price point was higher but with the economy it definitely went down which is more my style.

The toys we carry are no more expensive than Target….the clothing on the other hand is a bit more expensive but not by too much.

People like to give special items as gifts….it is just the way it is…and Target is not that special to most people for gifts.

And we do have the BEST sales at the 45 5th Ave. store which is happening right now!

    I love BROWNSTONER!!

shush you!!! after paying rent i *AM* ghetto!! hahaha but id rather live ghetto in park slope than live like a king in the ghetto. is that hard to understand? i spent too many years of my life living in crappy areas. i owe it to my dog, while he is alive, to live in a nice area. when he is gone ill go back to living in the ghetto. im doing an unselfish good thing, no?
