Japanese Market for Williamsburg
Disappointingly, there was no Japanese Market in the cards for Vanderbilt Avenue. But there’s hope in Williamsburg: The sign on the door of this storefront at 167 North 9th Street advertises a Japanese mini market called Midoriya. The sign also promises it will be “Coming Soon!!” GMAP

i’ll be checking it out – i used to go to the market on 3rd avenue below 14th street, or k-town for asian markets,
They also have a few items from japan at tops supermarket
Very excited about this. My wife is Japanese and has to go to the East Village to buy ingredients for dinner.
Yes, that’s it. I liked it but never went back after remodel. Apparently same owner but not totally sure.
The place farther down 7th is Yamato, I believe.
cool – a nice place for japanese snackos. will definitely check it out.
No, my friend in the house on 8th Ave did. Not sure how I found the one further down but went there with her and she pointed out Oshima. I’ve forgotten the name of the one a few blocks down but did like it originally but then they closed for renovations and reopened without a sushi bar, which is where i prefer to sit. 🙁
I had not tried Taro previously because they didn’t have the liquor license until about a week ago.
Dave, was I the one who turned you onto Oshima? You used to go to the place a little farther down 7th, no?
Glad you’ve come to like the place, despite the lackluster Toro. I like Taro a lot, but also prefer Oshima.
I still will go back to oshima simply because they know us and give us really big pices and “extras.” My only beef with them is that the Toro is not as good as it needs to be. they keep it frozen. 🙁
Thanks for the Taro review, I’ll have to check it out.
