There’s some turnover underway at 884 Fulton Street in Clinton Hill. The hair place that’s been a longtime presence (ten years, right?) at the corner of Waverly Avenue is gone and, according to a tipster, a hibachi & sushi restaurant is in the works. Should be a nice addition to this stretch. GMAP

  1. DIBS, I think BHO (and me for a while) was confused because Yamato and Oshima are both on 7th Avenue, not 5th…

When you said walk down Vanderbilt to 5th, there was a whole neighborhood in between you somehow skipped over. 🙂

  2. m4l, Yamato on Fifth is owned by japanese but the sushi chefs are Fukinese. The sushi is very good. the same is true of Oshima a few blocks down but I don’t think it’s Japanese-owned.

Apparently the Fukinese make good sushi chefs. And we get better service after Xing talks to them in Fukinese.

  3. DIBS, I wouldn’t hold your hopes too high. It’s more probable that a Chinaman will be running it. That Thai place you asked me is probably the one I ordered the delivery and judging from that experience, it was good (better than the ones on myrtle)

  4. This is really good news. A good Japanese restaurant would be welcome, emphasis on good! With the exception of Kush, which serves terrific French-African dishes, there isn’t a single good restaurant on Fulton east of Vanderbilt in my opinion. It’s generally exciting to see the renovation and reuse of a lot of long vacant spaces on Fulton
