There’s been no official announcement as far as we are aware, but a couple of loose-lipped Two Trees employees chatting in the elevator at 45 Main Street were overheard discussing the fact that the new Jean Nouvel-designed glass building that will house Jane’s Carousel in the former (and soon-to-be-refurbished) Empire Ferry State Park broke ground last week. Judging from this photo we snapped at the end of the day on Friday, this does indeed appear to be the case. Check out a rendering of the design here.

  1. The siting wasn’t “hashed over.” The Walentas family and people in power struck a backroom deal and then the decision was rationalized in public.

  2. The location is terrible. A good chunk of the park will be lost to this carousel. It is sad to see the grounds torn-up. Really sad!!

  3. the siting was hashed over endlessly already

there is a walkway by the brick buildings that has to be maintained

this is very good news, carousel will be huge draw and is monster size gift to brooklyn/nyc in general

  4. what fact? did i miss something in your message? should i be reading between the lines? elevators at 45 main are a breading ground for insider gossip.

  5. I just don’t get why it has to be so close to the water. Why can’t it be back by the brick pavilion? The view from there is just as nice.
