We’d originally relegated this story to the Daily Links post, but it’s too good not to have its own post…Apparently one of the owners of the popular coffee spot Gorilla Coffee at 97 Fifth Avenue in Park Slope rubbed the employees the wrong way so they all banded together and quit en masse, throwing the Park Slope ecosystem into disequilibrium. Evidently there are all sorts of signs posted out front with a running he-said-she-said account of the problem. From a reader: “My husband said there was line outside the door of people just freaking out and totally in crisis over the lack of coffee. I have a feeling he was one of them because I was on the other line when he called to tell me this, and he told my secretary that it was an emergency.” We also hear that Gorilla addicts have been depleting supplies at neighboring stores to ride out the current crisis. We’d be mighty appreciative if someone could send in some photos of the storefront and posted screeds…
Entire Staff Quits Gorilla Coffee in Slope [Brooklyn Paper]

I used to work at a place called Uprising Bakery in the slope. I used to think there wasn’t a more aptly named place to start a revolution – the owner was kind of a pain in the ass but not around enough to be worth it.
I don’t think the place exists anymore – maybe they found out the organic bread wasn’t really organic.
Tempest in a coffee pot.
“iced coffee is a genius idea – swap out some coffee with ice cubes then charge 50% to 100% more. that person who came up with the idea deserves some award for that”
Lots of places brew their iced coffee double strength (even starbucks) and cups for iced coffee are often larger than hot coffee.
Yeah, benson, hard to see you in Southside. Much mellower than Gorilla, but definitely unkempt. In the future, I’ll remember to add to my recommendations “but not you, benson” where necessary, although you are pretty good at sussing these things out for yourself. I’m honestly not sure how you survive in the Slope if you limit yourself to places that match your style and vibe. 😉
Best way to make iced coffee is espresso with ice. Still gets watered down but instead of creating weak coffee you get weak espresso – which is like regular coffee.

I agree there’s usually way too much ice and not enough coffee in iced coffee. Do any coffee joints make iced coffee with ice cubes made of coffee? I would be into that.
iced coffee – not tea
“I don’t take milk in my coffee, so maybe that’s part of it. It’s just watered down and cold. And i drink a lot of coffee.”
No milk here too – and I agree typically about iced coffee being nasty (starbucks, gag). Try a shot of espresso on top of your iced coffee – keeps it nice and strong as the ice melts. That’s how they serve it at La Colombe Torrefacion and it’s sooo good.
And don’t get me started on the New Orleans style iced tea at Blue Bottle Coffee — droooool.
