Actually the Cakeman is looking to expand. He’s shown some interest in PLG. I personally spoke with him about a few sites on Empire Blvd.
I went to the Cake Man for a cake to take to a holiday party two weeks before Christmas and they had not a crumb in the whole place. They looked at me as if I had two heads because I didn’t get the memo that I would have to order 2 weeks in advance to get a cake that wouldn’t be ready until after Christmas. I thought it was a poor business practice to have a retail shop open with no product and haven’t been back since. I mean what’s the point of having staff behind the counter to tell you that there are no cakes and won’t be any for 2 weeks.
and i hate matza ball soup, so there you have it.
once i went to cake man on a saturday morning, there was no cake! why? because it is so damn good they had sold out! run and be happy that the cake is ONLY $55, he should charge more.
I od’ on these cakes last summer due to being pregnant and them tasting sooooo good. My husband went on many runs to cakeman for me and of course he would get a slice for himself. Well after a 4 day binge, my hubby (who is a hypochondriac) calls me to say that there is blood in his stool. Duh honey it is the cake. π
B- now that you are learning about Bay Ridge, check out the cupcake store on 92nd and 3rd. Definate kid pleasers.
Anyone remember his float from the West Indies Day Parade two years ago? It was very amusing.
The ABSOLUTE BEST Red Velvet Cake anywhere. $55 per cake is a steal, considering it’s $5 for a lone Slice! Albeit that one slice can feed a small family. He definitely does NOT need to expand, because I’m sure it would lose his personal touch.
Cake Man was featured on a Food TV show a few weeks ago. They featured a Fort Greene baker! My mouth was watering. . .
