How to Explain Downtown Brookyn’s Success?

Here’s the New York Daily News’ take on downtown’s economic growth: Students, restaurants and tech startups have fueled the economic boom. Downtown Brooklyn is one of the few areas in the city where no private sector jobs have been lost since 2003, although growth has slowed since 2008, as a July report explained. The area covered in the report isn’t strictly only downtown but also includes adjacent Boerum Hill, the Navy Yard, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo and Vinegar Hill. As we said in an earlier post, we can’t help but think the popularity of these areas as places to live must be helping too. The population has grown by 15,000 people since 2005, the report notes. The biggest job increases were in health care.
