House of the Day: Over the Clinton Hill Border
This Bed Stuy baby’s a beauty but it’s pushing the envelope price-wise. If you’re a believer in the long-term Bed Stuy story, though, this could be a wonderful place to grow old in. To be fair, the 5-story, 5,700-square-foot mansion is less than half a block from Clinton Hill, where this would probably cost another $500K. It’s hard to tell from the limited photos what the interiors are like, though the kitchen looks recently remodeled and the listing claims lots of original details. Anyone seen it yet

I never saw the police stats angle as reason behind the lack of patrols in the Clinton Hill area, but it certainly makes sense. The lack of visible police presence in the neighborhood is disturbing compared to the regular foot patrols one views on Smith, Montague, 5th Ave, 6th Ave, etc. Granted the neighborhood has a different makeup–but come on, what the hell kind of offenses are occurring on the aforementioned streets. I know of at least three gun incidents on Myrtle in the last several months–two of which I was in the immediate vicinity. In contrast, you could use Clinton Hill parking meter squad as an alarm clock if only you could convince them to ring your buzzer everyday at 9am as they do their sweep…Apparently the neighborhood is a good source of revenue. Maybe I am paranoid, but I don’t recall this attentive level of meter enforcement when I lived in Boerum Hill.
Interested in the hose but thinking 1600000 is high as I am unsure of the safety in the area. It’s on the market now for two months. Any updates thoughts?
I agree with your stat comments. Unfortunately it seems that declining resources is the latest excuse as to why more officers are not patrolling the neighborhood.
Cops don’t want to hear about crime because if there’s crime in their precincts, it ups their crime stats. Lower crime stats = promotions for the brass. So if the record looks better, the cops are better off. If you make a police report, always get the report number so you can follow up afterwards. Otherwise, at least in the 88th Precinct, there’s a good chance nothing will be written down, and with no record of the report, their crime stats aren’t affected. Also, you can complain to 311 if your police complaint gets no reponse. Then 311 opens a file on it, and gives you another complaint number to follow up on, and tracks the precinct’s response so you can document the episode for your elected officials.
Weed smokers. I do not care what you do in the comfort of your own home/apartment. However I do care when it is outside of my house or a couple of doors down. It is embarrassing and very rude. I guess it is more important for the police to hand out parking tickets or pull you over for not driving with a seat belt nowadays.
What’s the crime?
Who knows what is wrong with the police. I have complained several times about non violent crimes that occur in my area. Every day between 8am and 9am the same folks commit the same non violent crime. One would think that the police would permanently do something about it. Nonetheless the same culprits commit the same crimes daily like clock work with little to no intervention.
What is up with the cops in Brooklyn? How come these places aren’t shut down? Over on DailyHeights.com (different police precinct), people are complaining that the cops don’t want to hear about muggings. Disgraceful.
