“Hot or Not”. Is this TMZ now? Cool. I’m looking forward to the brownstoner version of “Who’d you rather”
What the majority of people have said. Blecch. Btw, I agree, the lions and garage house is worse, sad to say.
I can’t believe the LPC would have approved this. No way. I think the architect is lying.
There’s also a house further west that just got a new faux stone facade that looks really, really ugly. I saw it going up. They even put that crap over the lintels.
Oh the house with the garage and the lions is so horrible. Amzi, you didn’t mention it’s maroon and teal and that the garage is carved out of the garden level of the house. I hate that place and I am embarrassed for the owners. It’s worse than this current place. So much worse.
I have no idea how LPC approved this mess also…. This building along with the house a few doors down with the garage and Lions really make this block UGLY. There are so many wonderful homes on this block but this along with the garage house really spoil it for me. This additions is so out of context… HORRIBLE JOB!
MSM…there was something on the DOB site about splitting the lot…I didn’t read the details.
About a year ago I asked the architect about the Landmarks approval. I don’t know what the process is for calendared buildings, but he did tell me it was approved. While I wish it weren’t so, I do believe this building extension has followed the rules. I also hate how when you are walking down Macon Street you can see the side of the extension, which is just cinder blocks. I was hoping they would at least paint the cinder blocks, but so far they haven’t. I was also told the owners own the lot behind this building on Halsey and that they ahd hired the architect to build a new building there. I have no idea if that project is still in the cards.
I’ve considered sending in a photo of this thing for a while. I have stared at it dozens of times. I’ve seen it from the front, side, and back. It is ugly from all angles. It’s not the camera. Annie Liebovitz couldn’t make this thing look good. It is an assault on the block. Hate it.
