franklin-st-012111.jpgGreenpoint gets today’s royal treatment from the Wall Street Journal, which ran a profile on the burgeoning stretch of Franklin Street. Although growing at a slower pace than some parts of Williamsburg, Franklin Avenue offers more attractive rents to creative types opening clothing boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and even a private skateboard park. The piece also brings up the much talked about homeless shelter that’s been proposed for 400 McGuinness Boulevard. According to CB1 chairman Christopher Olechowski, “I don’t think those involved with the proposal realize how much it will affect property values as well as the quality of life of residents.”

  1. Right. Maybe we should just shoot the homeless.

Seriously; they need shelter somewhere, and putting them around rich people will maybe irritate the rich people enough to make them try and do something to reduce the number of homeless people.

Besides, I’d rather annoy rich people than poor people. Poor people have enough problems.

  2. Regarding the shelter, at a community meeting we were told it will be for the newly homeless, who are awaiting permanent shelter. Thus they will be at their most dysfunctional, and basically be hanging out waiting for more permanent digs. Not a good thing. Since our nabe has its share of community burdens, including the largest waste treatment plant in the city and many garbage transfer stations, we are hoping a sense of fairness will prevail.

  3. Hey 11217! You’re a very hard man to reach (re-write?). Several of us have to tried to email you to go out, but then I saw you reply to dave’s post that you don’t check the email addy I have.

Will you please email me again at carrollgardened AT gmail DOT com (or at my real email addy which you have) with an email addy where I can reach you?! Thanks!
