The Green Giant of Baltic Street is filled… but under mysterious circumstance. In January we checked in on this building at Court and Baltic, which is something of a sore thumb with its glass facade and neon green trim. Seven months after being built, it’s now the home to… three bicycles? Yes, a ladder and three rather cumbersome looking bikes on display. With its twenty foot high ceilings and nonexistent privacy it doesn’t seem like a building much good for anything, but maybe a bike store will fit in fine. Anyone heard any more information?

  1. It totally looks like a boutique-y retail space. It’s a bit cramped, but I’m confused why people seem to think it’s some sort of horrifyingly unusable place.

If the rent were low enough (important caveat) it would be snapped up and used to sell designer handbags italian necklaces or vintage etruscan pottery or whatever random fancy shit people think will sell.

  2. The problem with the space is that it’s tiny. Really small footprint. Not sure how they could have managed a restaurant since there’s no other room such as a kitchen nor bathroom. Not sure whoever built this space was thinking. Nor is there a back storage room nor downstairs, so for a retail space, unless it’s small pieces that can be stored in drawers, zero storage.

A garden store would be perfect for the space, and the area could use it. Good idea.

GRDN on Hoyt is OK, but small (kinda like this space). Perhaps the two could fill different niches.

  4. Those bikes have been there for months. I don’t think they have any connection to anything that is planned for the space. And yes, the agent for the space is Vespa Realty, who may or may not have anything to do with the bikes.

  5. Yeah… ‘sticking out like a sore thumb’ is always negative. A less value-laden term (or at least erring on the positive) may have been ‘unique’ or ‘distinctive’ or ‘idiosyncratic’
