El-Almacen-Brooklyn-Sangria

It’s been a hot and humid summer, and we really didn’t even get a nice spring. But it’s nothing a pitcher of sangria can’t fix. From red to white to sparkling, the classic summer cocktail is refreshing and (dangerously) tasty. It’s also a great excuse to consume vast quantities of boozy fruit. Here are six stellar Brooklyn spots for getting your sangria on.

El Almacén (Williamsburg)
This cozy Argentinian restaurant is a carnivore’s delight. It’s also a great place to spend a lazy afternoon with a pitcher of sangria. Can’t choose between red and white? Order one of each and sip them al fresco in the backyard garden.

Fonda (Park Slope)
Fonda’s original Park Slope outpost serves some of the best Mexican food in Brooklyn. They also know how to make a mean cocktail. Having a bad day? Their berry-garnished red sangria will help you forget all about it.

Surfish Peruvian Bistro (Park Slope)
Surfish serves exceptional Peruvian seafood in the heart of Park Slope. Although we came for the ceviche, we stayed (way past our bedtime) for the sangria. It has just the right amount of kick and they don’t skimp on the fruit.

Puerto Viejo (Prospect Heights)
Puerto Viejo is our go-to spot for Dominican comfort food. Even if you don’t live near Prospect Heights their slow-roasted pork pernil and delicious berry sangria are worth the trip.

Chavela’s (Prospect Heights)
This popular Prospect Heights cantina serves authentic Mexican fare in festive surroundings. In-the-know Brooklynites head there for happy hour (Monday-Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.) for draft sangria and $2 tacos. You should also try the campechana (a tasty margarita-sangria hybrid) if you’re in the mood for something different.

Bogota Latin Bistro (Park Slope)
Bogota Latin Bistro is famed for its pan-Latino fare and killer cocktails. The next time you’re in Park Slope, make time for a frozen red sangria and their mouth-watering Colombian BBQ ribs.
