The humongous new rock-climbing facility on 3rd Avenue and Degraw Street, Brooklyn Boulders, is slated to open on August 3rd. To recap: The gym, which is an old Daily News garage, has 30-foot ceilings and will have a bunch of different climbing options, including a top-rope climbing area and a replica of a Brooklyn Bridge tower to hoist onto. While the business will start welcoming climbers in a couple weeks, its grand opening shindig isn’t happening until September 9th. Click through the photos for a taste of what it’ll be like.

“is it very hard pulling yourself up as a woman through the course?

A slim woman will have as good, if not better, strength-to-weight ratio as a man. In addition, upper body strength doesn’t really play that much of a part until you get past beginner level although it helps to have a strong grip.
the article said it was a “gym.” does this mean it will have a weight-lifting area aswell? if so, this looks like a perfect gym for me! 🙂
This ROCKS!
Rob, it might be hard for you given that you mentioned that you’re very wubbly most of the time.
I love this! – I want to try!
is it very hard pulling yourself up as a woman through the course?
nah it doesnt ruin it, ive never been rock climbing. is it as hard as rope climbing itself? i was never able to do it in gym class 🙁

ps Rob, the rope will only be there for really high walls – otherwise it will be very thick pads up to about 25 feet.
And why does the rope ruin it for you? Falling from that height would not be fun!
Rob,
most walls will have multiple, colour-coded, routes so they can be as easy or as hard as you want. Give it a go – it’s fun and very good exercise.
Now this is cool! Love the graffiti. How long and fine-printed is the waiver form gonna be?
