A vandal has started fires on 6th Street between 5th and 4th avenues twice in the past week. Both incidents occurred on the street’s garbage nights, according to people who live on the block. Last Wednesday, someone ignited garbage bags and completely wrecked the Subaru shown above. The building next to the car was filled with nasty smoke for most of Thursday, according to a resident. And last night a similar fire was started, though it doesn’t seem to have resulted in property damage (see singed sidewalk on jump). “That’s two garbage nights in a row,” said someone who lives on the block. “Clearly it’s becoming a problem.” Clearly. 1. Great point 1:17, and also, what if there were a chinchilla in one of the cars? Chinchillas are rabbit-sized, crepuscular rodents native to the Andes mountains in South America, but someone in Park Slope may own and love one and may have been keeping it in it the car. It’s quite possible the arsonist might not have seen the chinchilla, as they are quite small.

  2. What if there were a little dog inside these cars? The arsonist might be able to see if there’s a person or baby inside the car, but a small dog wouldn’t be visible. Park Slope is dog country. Lots of dogowners there.
