I have wondered the same thing, Brownstoner. Maybe everyone is having a hard week for some reason? Alternatively, people sometimes develop a sense of entitlement after hanging around a blog for a while. They think they can do your job for you and generally control what is / is not said. This could also be a factor. You have a tough job!
Geez, is there something in the Brooklyn water supply this week? Obviously Shahn has great reverence for old buildings. Clearly his POS comment was merely referring to the fact that the house (or at least the exterior) needs some TLC and he’d get great satisfaction out of restoring something like this to its original glory. Everyone should remember that it’s very difficult to convey tone and subtlely when writing in this medium, so try giving people the benefit of the doubt instead of immediately jumping down their throats.
this street is a favorite bike stop when heading to brooklyn bridge park for pizza and relax. i think the house is right next to that 70’s modern house that was on Brownstoner not long ago. like Nonny said, the houses across street are cool too.
Seeing as Shahn is renovating a structure that most would regard as a POS, I took his comment to be a complement to the house, in a bad=good slang kind of way. Perhaps an unfortunate choice of words, but meant in the best way.
BTW Shahn, looking forward to more blog entries – how’s it coming?
You cannot easily tell from the picture how much of a yard there is. Looks like there is a bit of a yard in front, but can anyone remember whether there is more?
“Everyone should remember that it’s very difficult to convey tone and subtlely when writing in this medium”–Exactly my point.
people should check out shahn’s labor of love before giving him shit. the guy LOVES pos’ and has a big heart. cheers, shahn.

I didn’t say it is a piece of shit. I said it is the kind of piece of shit I would want to buy and renovate. Semantics? 😛
saying someone’s house is “a bit run down” is quite different than calling it a “piece of shit”….
