GM all;
One heartening thing I’ve noticed is that New Yorkers are being pretty courteous during this storm.
CGar, you live in a part of Brooklyn that doesn’t have manners. I bet if it was some douchebag hipster that was walking he wouldn’t have done it. Nor would anyone who works for a global investment bank!!!
GM, Dave. Funny, I’ve never noticed the “gate trick” before. Usually, I’m forced to climb a snowbank to let people pass, and it irks me when people don’t take turns letting people go.
Regarding the snow, I learned an interesting form of Brooklyn etiquette last night…
When the sidewalk path is only wide enough for one person and another is approaching, people will open up the iron gate to a property and step inside so as to let someone else pass. Then they close the gate and continue on.
I had not experinced this in previous snowfalls (that hadn’t been as high) and it was quite a courtesy. It happened to me last night on the way to Saraghina.
Of course this could not happen in front of a Fedders building as there are no nice wrought iron gates.
