  1. See? Condescending, generalizing posts like Peda’s (“They” do this and that, etc…) practically rebut themselves. And if anyone feels it’s worth the energy to further rebut it, they’re free to do so. Give ’em enough rope, I say.

  2. You want harmonious co-existence near the projects? Will never happen. Why?

#1 These people love music. And their favorite song must obviously be everyone else’s favorite song too. So what do they do? They blare music in their cars (summer and winter) at deafening decibels and at all times of the day and night without any disregard for neighbors. “Yeah, look at me! I drive around the projects all day in a rundown car but with a nice sound system. I don’t work but I play hip music in my ride. Yes, I’m important!!”

#2 They can’t stop littering until every square inch of every sidewalk is covered with trash. Never mind the fact that trash bins are located on every corner. Must be a genetic disorder.

#3 They can only find fellowship on street corners and as a rule of thumb there must be at least 5 or more threatening lads among them. In addition, there’s an iron clad rule that no one can leave the corner before 3am in the morning.

#4 They are loud and rowdy. Whispering and soft speak are foreign concepts. They love noise and the attention. Every statement must be delivered in the form of a screeching yell and every joke must be accompanied with incredibly loud gut wrenching laughter. How can we expect them to be quiet on the streets when they can’t keep their mouths shut in a theatre during a movie?

#5 They never heard of a bar. They must consume all alcoholic beverage on street corners and in large bottles that they occasional pour to pay tribute to some fallen mate.

#6 They believe that getting one’s sneaker scuffed by a clumsily bloke is sufficient justification to shoot him.

#7 Public swearing is a part of everyday life.

#8 They think that walking around with a menacing scowl is actually attractive.

#9 They invite a slew of predictable low end businesses into the neighborhood. Every other store is either a Chinese restaurant, liquor store, nail salon, barber shop, or shabby bodega.

#10 They think that eyeballing one’s wife while in the accompany of her husband is a sincere compliment.

NO! The upper middle class and the underclass CAN NEVER CO-EXIST!!

  3. P– thought police, thought police, thought police. That’s what I call someone who would call Bstoner racist etc. for simply posting a link. If you don’t like the article, post and rebut it, but to try to stop a discussion before it starts– essentially, to say, “I want to make sure as few people as possible read those ideas”–that’s some good thought policin’, my friend. People have every right to do it, but I think it’s a shame, and a double shame that they now see it works.

Who’s to say which links will generate thoughtful discussions and which ones will generate stupid ones? Some of the most idiotic flame wars here (e.g., the last PLG one) have arisen from totally innocuous links. Any blog discussion related to race has the potential to devolve into stupidity.

  4. And why is there a link to the “Sabbath Showdown in W’burg [NY Daily News]” article here? I didn’t know there were that many hassidic people reading brownstoner…they’re the only one’s who would give a sh*t about that link.

  5. LVP- I think ‘thought police’ is pretty strong. I’m sure that there can be interesting sincere discussions on that housing project but given recent flame wars I don’t think that particular post was going to prompt one.

  6. I think like many other neighborhoods in BK, ten years ago it was a lot different than now; there’s no black & white answer: sometimes there’s tension between people and sometimes it’s fine. But it’s not like a black hole in the middle of the neighborhood that everyone avoids.

  7. I don’t blame you a bit, Mr B. I just hope that this doesn’t embolden the thought police around here. Why not just let the idiots have their say and let the link stand for itself? But I don’t begrudge you having an easy Friday.

Calling someone an elitist and racist for LINKING to an article on a freaking blog — that is the definition of needing to get a life. My God.
