Back in the summer, the owner of the restaurant Barrio, on the corner of 7th Avenue and 3rd Street in Park Slope, said he would be relaunching the space as “Barrio Plates.” That didn’t come to pass, though, as the short-lived small-plates concept in the space ended up being named MIX, and it only stayed in business for about a month. Now a new restaurant is being primed to fill the space: A sign on the door says it will be called Casa Ventura, and its Facebook page gives a sense of what’s going to be on offer: “An authentic Latin American dining experience conceived by brothers Jose Ventura and Executive Chef, Giovanni Ventura. Long time locals and proprietors Devonna Middeleer, Courtney Ebner and Avi Kravitz joined the duo to create an invitingly warm and eclectic environment, committed to serving Latin cuisine using only the finest local ingredients. Casa Ventura’s menu will consist of many of the delicious traditional dishes from Puerto Rico, such as mofongo, pasteles, frituras and asopao. It will also include other Latin signature dishes — arepas con bacalao from Colombia, tacos and quesadillas from Mexico, black beans from Cuba, ceviche from Peru and arroz moro from Santo Domingo.” Here’s Park Slope, which covered the renovation of the space a couple days ago, noted that it should be open within a couple months.
