This just in from a reader whose doorbell was rung by the cops at 2 a.m. last night: “There was a mugging on Irving and Gates @ 1 AM and then a rape in the same area between 5-6 AM this morning. Seems like it was the same guy from the Classon and Fulton one a few days back.” You can see the Wanted poster here. Contact the Brooklyn Special Victims Unit Squad at 718-230-4418 if you have any information.

  1. “This is all the result of the mutant asset bubble and the ongoing implosion.

Someday this war is gonna end.”

ROFL, thank you DIBS. WHERE is that guy when you need him for comic relief? Having to deal with criminals in ADDITION to Asshats.

  2. The first rape took place last week in PS3’s school yard on Hancock and Franklin. There are always police at Franklin station, day and night, and there are foot patrols as well as squad cars rolling by. It’s a heavily policed area, not least because of the school, and someone still was attacked.

I live across the street and called the 79th precinct to find out what had happened – before it was on the news – and there was no reply or voicemail at the precinct, community affairs, community policing or crime prevention.

I don’t think the police give a crap about what goes on in this neighborhood. Getting an increased police presence is meaningless if they aren’t going to pay attention when they are supposedly on duty.

  3. “Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill has always been a crime zone. Just because it is nearly all white now doesn’t mean it is safe.”

These areas are not almost all white. Check the demographics for the 88th precinct. You seem to be trying to make a point but not sure what it is.

  4. Ok, this is the count for the last 2 weeks in my Fort Greene on the border of Clinton Hill world:

    1) Fatal shooting in Ingersoll houses
    2) Fatal shooting in Whitman houses
    3) One other shooting near Myrtle
    4) At 8:30 this past Thursday, two people shot on Clinton between Gates and Greene – one 30 year old man who was the target of a drug-related drive by shooting. One 70 year old man who was just passing by.
    5) Robbery last night
    6) Rape this morning

    7) My bike stolen (last week – sorry, it seems small but it it irritates me on top of the other stuff scaring the shit out of me).

  5. Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill has always been a crime zone. Just because it is nearly all white now doesn’t mean it is safe. In 1981 when I moved in gunshots, murder of Pratt students, buildings set a flame were the norm. It is a unsafe area. It hasn’t gotten better, there are just more people on the streets so the criminals have more to pick from. Sad but true.

  6. The 88th is totally undermanned. There is something close to 150 officers (someone please correct me) to man the 88th TOTAL. Spread this out over 24/7 and include the fact that they have to cover Ratnerland at the Atlantic Terminals and you can see the problems we face as a community regarding safety compound. The mayor loves numbers and the best way to help out is to report any incident you can, stolen bikes, vandalism, drug dealers and users in vacant buildings via 911 or 311 on line. You can do it anonymously. These stats are reviewed on at least a monthly basis across the city for all precincts. The more complaints the more services you get and the less chance we get a reduction in force in our area.
