A Degraw Street resident wrote in concerned about the major construction work that sprung up without warning on Degraw between Court and Clinton this week. The work, which could last up to two years, is part of the Gowanus clean-up construction we observed earlier this month. The Brooklyn Paper writes that “One lane of Degraw Street at the intersection of Tompkins Place will be closed for 26 months” to access an “underground flushing tunnel” to the Gowanus Canal. (Apparently a resident was told by an onsite foreman it would be a good idea for residents to keep their windows closed during construction.) Nearby residents are mostly concerned they were not given any advance notice of the duration or purpose of construction. “Who knew that a major eyesore could just pop up overnight right in front of your house with no notice nor information about what’s happening or how long it will go on for?” writes a resident. “For anyone who may have been planning to put their house on the market, good luck; even trying to rent a place may present a challenge.”
This project was pretty well discussed and publicized but either way -> I dont understand the whole ‘notice’ thing anyway….what would you do if you knew this was coming???
Are they complaining that if they want to sell their homes people wont be interested? I seriously doubt that but again – what was the plan, to sell it to some unsuspecting sucker before the project started?
Really what they are complaining about is they didnt have time to organize to STOP a needed infrastructure repair. At least now I will feel good as I take a shit the next 26mo that I am stinking up the homes of a bunch of crying NIMBYs
Do people in Cobble Hill ever stop complaining? They’re starting to rival DUMBO residents as most annoying NIMBYs ever.
1) its for the good of Brooklyn as a whole, you’ll have to grin and bear it
2) thank your lucky starts it’s not an MTA project. We had a simple one on the srteet one block away that by my calculations lasted 3 years. The work should have been 8 months max.
“no notice or information”? Is this for real? This project has been written about, and publicly debated for at least two years. If you didn’t know this was coming you clearly weren’t paying any attention to events in your local community. You want to be informed? Inform yourself!
May a bedbug crawl out of your pants pocket today, rob.
“im sure your neighbors probably said the same thing when you pulled up on moving day”
BWHAHAHA!
oh god someone please call the waaaahmbulance.

*rob*
dibs, cb too worried about pools and windows.
26 months???? That probably means 48!!!!! Looks like you couldn’t move in or out either without a serious hassle of where to park the moving truck!!!!!
Looks like they are going to erect some 9′ tall wall in front of these houses.
Where’s the CB on this????
