A tipster sent in this photo of a new coffee place called Coffee Bites going in at 824 Washington Avenue near St. John’s Place in Prospect Heights. Coffee Bites is pretty gross… They have bad coffee and rats! On the outside, Coffee Bites looks quaint, but decent, it aint! Their coffee is mediocre at best, and they are not even close to running a sanitary establishment as there are rat droppings on the floor all over their kitchen area. Totally gross! Unless you are a health inspector, I would not advise visiting this place. There are many better options in the neighborhood where one does not have to be concerned with rodent droppings coming into contact with your morning muffin. Glass House or Sit & Wonder are a million times better than this place!
Glass House has my vote.
After getting its butt kicked by Franklin, and even Classon Ave. It’s nice to see Washington Ave fight back. Now if the area gets a really GOOD bar then…..
and while we’re at it, can someone PLEASE open up something catering to gentrifiers in the old bakery space on Washington between Lincoln & St John’s, right by Teddy’s?
penny house serves la colombe, as does glass house, but the place is a little too generic. my bagel was given margarine, not butter. blah.
the extent of competition really depends on the kind of vibe it has. sit & wonder and glass shop are coffeehouses with a salon-y vibe – serious coffee, served by people taking themselves seriously (and i mean that most affectionately, speaking as a customer and former berkeleyite). there is also penny house cafe between prospect and park, which is more utilitarian but decent and friendly. there’s probably more room, particularly if they’ve got a good drip coffee, are staffed well for commute hours while also being a pleasant place to hang out.
check it out, you’ll see
my wife’s been stopped on the street twice in last month by people asking how to get there…
Sit & Wonder @ Washington & St. Marks. Heard a few good things about Glass Shop but I cannot imagine “people coming from out of nabe for the scene.”
Glass Shop on Classon (btw St. John’s and Park) has turned into a real hot spot. people coming from out of nabe for the scene.
well deserved too, coffee and food are top notch. I welcome this new place, but will have a hard time drawing people away from Glass Shop
