Heather, there are as many cyclists with road-entitlement as there are car drivers with the same. In fact the cyclists often have even more zeal for it on account of the fact that they are saving the world.
They had huge bouncy castles and kiddie pools, as well as ESPN’s television. (I guess it was okay that ESPN sponsored this event, since it was not a blog, huh?)
Anyways, it was fantastic except that despite the street being closed, some cyclists treated the pedestrians like an obstacle course, weaving in and out of them. Even this would not have raised my ire… but when you’re barreling downhill towards a pack of two-year olds coming out of the pool, you’d think maybe some kind of social conscience MIGHT kick in and make you consider, oh, I don’t know, slowing the hell down? Walking your bike for one block? Taking another street because this one is CLOSED?
Next time it might be a good idea to kinda make sure that the cyclists realize that street closed means them too.
Also, there was a fire. But that was a huge hit with the kids.
the chairs are festive and nicer than the ones in times square. and yeah lol at it hogging up the bike lane.
*rob*
Closed a whole big street for 10 people to sit around? I hope this wasn’t the height of the festivities.
Fort Greene had a street festival on Sunday. I think FABFest on Fulton will take place by Lafayette every Sunday for the rest of June.
Looks like fun. I’m going next weekend. I love PH, would take it over PS, FG, BH any day.
was fun, good group, relaxed yes they showed Eng/US match
Why are there so many pissy pants (bmfesq, et al.) on this website? I thought I was bad, but jaysus… I thought most people found street festivities at least a little fun. Man o’ man.
ESPN (I think it was them.) had a food truck at Grand Army Plaza with food from around the world and on top, a television hooked up to Direct TV. Maybe twenty people were watching yesterday around 2:00. Sitting on asphalt next to a traffic rotary didn’t seem a big draw.
