Closing Bell: On Leaving Park Slope
“I am leaving Park Slope because I am increasingly impatient with people too socially deficient to act like good neighbors. People who won’t spare five seconds to help an old lady. People who can’t figure out their way around without checking their iPhones. People who don’t say hi to the neighbors with whom they share…

“I am leaving Park Slope because I am increasingly impatient with people too socially deficient to act like good neighbors. People who won’t spare five seconds to help an old lady. People who can’t figure out their way around without checking their iPhones. People who don’t say hi to the neighbors with whom they share a stoop. These things are getting noticeably worse.” This is the nut of a post by longtime Park Sloper Daryl Lang who’s leaving the borough and moving to Manhattan. The essay covers everything from the Park Slope Food Co-Op to pretentious parenting and “fidgety and skittish” fathers. His final diagnosis? “Park Slope’s reputation as a welcoming place went viral, and brought in new residents who made it a warped exaggeration of itself.” Agree?

“Except two sentences in we will realize that the writer has lived on Jay and Willoughby for the last 3 and 1/2 years…”
Isn’t that considered NorthWest Park Slope?
🙂
“He’s moving to Wall Street”
The Manhattan neighborhood that FIRST comes to mind when I think of community spirit!!
“Someone needs to write a similar article about Brooklyn Heights.”

You Park Slopers are pretty full of yourselves. Park Slope is like it’s own country – very unlike the rest of Brooklyn. I’m glad you like it there, but c’mon, it’s kind of become a joke. The fact that Daryl wrote something on his blog that got picked up on Brownstoner is one thing, but it’s not like he posted his blog posting ON Brownstoner just to spite you guys. So much ridiculous hate.
He’s moving to Wall Street, which is really even more awesome. He’s excited about the gym in his building, but mad that he won’t be able to order Thai food for delivery on Saturdays.
Well, see, his major downfall was not discovering Brownstoner.com and drinking the PLUSA kool-aid. After a single Official CobbleSnaps Production, where he surely would have been plied with alcohol and tasty homemade treats, he’d never even consider leaving Brooklyn. So sad. All of this could have been avoided, dear Daryl. So sad.
Someone needs to write a similar article about Brooklyn Heights.
Slopey, Don’t try to make sense of it, dear, it will only give you a headache!
“the great churn of New York City real estate has flooded the Slope with young, progressive couples.”
WTF?? He says the above started taking place in 2007. 2007???
