It was widely reported today that the New York Islanders will begin their 2015-16 hockey season at the Barclays Center. This afternoon Marty Markowitz, Bruce Ratner and team owner Charles Wang made the announcement at the stadium. Mayor Bloomberg was also present, and according to the New York Daily News he hopes the move will help the struggling team to “get their mojo back.” This partnership had been in talks for several years. The Barlcays Center, with only 14,500 seats for hockey games, will be the smallest arena in the NHL.
