The union rat was parked outside of the 5th Avenue branch of Neergaard Pharmacy yesterday afternoon. According to the union guys, they were protesting the sign company Neergaard is employing. GMAP

  1. Here is how I, a tax payer, benefit. My tax dollars not going to an auto worker getting paid for sitting in a room not producing anything. Affordable air fair. Affordable shipping. I could go on for days. You sound like a puppet repeating what a union boss told you at a meeting. Fool. Do your own research. Enen the NY times prints some of the fact about the above statements. And as far as the TWU, why are the willing to let 700 union members get axed before they ate willing to make any pay compensations? And in todays news, why is Hoffa pitted against GS? Why is Obama being told to “keep his promise” by major Union leader? Open your eyes. Don’t just listen to Unuon leaders. Take all info into account. BTW. Union membership is low bc people are tired of the lies and their Co’s going under because they listened to the Union leaders. Why do u think unions want to do away with the secret voting ballot? So they can pressure who doesn’t want union representation. No secret ballot? Sounds as UnAmerican as I could think!

  2. Have any idea how many taxpayer dollars were given to the MTA to satisfy the TWU 13% pay hike? Your a complete fool and clown if you think companies can survive on their own with union work force without help. Please give me and example of any union industry that does not receive some form of subsidy from the government? Ps. why the f did we, the tax payers give the UAW part ownership of the company and a 9% dividend on their shares? Why did the unions themselves receive stimulus money directly? Unions are strangling this country. We can carry you on our backs for so long.

I can speak about the MTA and their waste, which has little to do with the Union. The MTA has over 200 Vice presidents. As well as executives they’ve also hired vast new amounts of managers in redundant positions. There used to be one person running each bus depot/train yard, now there’s between 5 and 8. There used to be one dispatcher for a whole bus depot, now there’s on for every line. These companies/state authorities are too top heavy, executives are looting companies at the expense of both the workers and customers.
Workers want to produce a quality, affordable product they will buy. Executives can care less and manipulate the situation by pitting transit workers and riders against each other. You’re either buying into propaganda or am somehow profiting from the busting of unions. Union membership is at an all time low btw, so I don’t see how Unions can be “taking over” as you say. Walmart is taking over, not the unions.

  3. And how about the Railroad! And what the Govmt is doing to “level the playing field” between UPS and FedEx by way of the railway act? Wake up people!

While I’m at it, who is the fool who said that the rat guys sound like republicans? Many Dems are only in office because of Union support.

Time for a real third Party please!

  4. your living with blinders. While everyone is waving the “health care reform flag” the government is giving the country away to the Unions. The entire american auto worker payroll is subsidized by the government with tax dollars. Why did the government take over the pension of the union employees from Delphi auto parts (payroll and pension was the cause of that company to file chapter 11) now that it has been sold to a private equity firm (that leans way right). The US government took on the thing that caused them to be unprofitable. Humm. Lets look at the Rubber workers union (tires). Merged with Steel workers union and are currently in talks to merge with UAW. US tire company cannot compete with imports because of payroll and pension. Government imposes a 40% import tax on tires recently (guess that makes the playing field level!). The list goes on. Locally. Have any idea how many taxpayer dollars were given to the MTA to satisfy the TWU 13% pay hike? Your a complete fool and clown if you think companies can survive on their own with union work force without help. 5. Oh yeah. I wasn’t talking about you Joe! Sorry. I should have been clear. I was talking about the person you were responding to.

Very good point btw about Medicaid, SSI and comp subsidizing non-union employers. Its very much part of the “wal-martization” of America. And its tragic. Because some coyotes undercut the regulations that were passed and enforced by our body politic at large that everyone has to pay in the race to the bottom.

I meant to say this before but just got caught on the previous poster in a moment of confusion!

  6. The taxpayers aren’t subsidizing union payrolls. When you are employed, typically the employer pays a payroll tax and the employee pays a payroll tax that’s deducted off their check.
Its not the wage rate so much that cost the Union employers, its paying the appropriate taxes and conforming with the statutory framework that costs more money. A non-Union employer can easily get away with not paying its appropriate taxes or conforming to the law as they are supposed to. It keeps their costs lower but it screws the taxpayers…and people can get hurt or killed.

I don’t see how you read into my comment that the taxpayers are subsidizing Union payrolls. This doesn’t even make logical sense.

Not sure who you were referring to but I was agreeing with you. I totally agree that it’s the NON UNION employer that is being indirectly subsidized through not paying their proper share of taxes and making their employees rely on gov’t programs instead of company benefits. Thought you might have misread what I wrote. Just want to clear up any confusion.

  8. Why are the taxpayers subsidizing the unions payroll and pensions in non government unions? What industry that has a union workforce can prove to be a successful business model without these subsidies?

I think the comment above you pretty much spells out your misconception. When non-union shops don’t pay payroll taxes, workers comp, etc. THEY are being subsidized by medicaid, SSI , etc. It’s the union shop that is paying they’re own way, which is why they find it difficulty to compete, BECAUSE it is noty an equal playing field. Remember, when a working poor person can’t afford to live and has to rely on gov’t programs we are all subsidizing the employer that underpays them. (Walmart worker on Medicaid for ex.)
