A film about Crown Heights’ Starlite Lounge, the gay bar that opened in 1959 and closed last year, is currently in post-production. Here’s a description of the film: “Starlite is a feature length documentary about the eviction of a neighborhood bar that brings to light the importance of protecting cultural institutions, and the perilous effects of denying representation to the residents of marginalized communities undergoing economic redevelopment.” The filmmakers are raising funds to finish the project, and there’s going to be a rough cut screening of it at the LGBT Center on Thursday. Meanwhile, a Starlite reunion party is going to be held this weekend at a TBD location in support of the planned reopening of the bar.
