The Daily News this weekend reported that mob suspect Dominick (Black Dom) Dionisio, “awaiting trial for a gangland shooting and armed robbery,” is using his job at Carroll Gardens pizzeria Lucali’s to circumvent his bail conditions. The feds say Dionisio, an associate of the Colombo crime family, doesn’t actually work—that he uses the restaurant as a social club—and there seems to be something fishy about his arrangement with owner Mark Iacono; when asked to produce pay stubs, Dionisio produced 10 sequentially numbered checks from Iacono’s personal account. Dionisio has asked a judge to remove the electronic bracelet he must wear while he awaits trial and the court will hear arguments over the matter on Thursday. GMAP

The pizza is respectable, in no way is it anywhere close to the best in the city. It is also grossly overpriced. Good pizza for sure, but I would not wait the time nor pay the price for it.
I really miss Leonardo’s on Court where Dunkin Doughnuts is now. They were a great pizza place. Pizza was not the best in the city but still great and cheap.
Waiting 2 hours for a $25 pizza is racketeering.
Thanks to jay-z and beyonce and Lucali’s frequent unannounced closings for vacations I’ve never had the pleasure of dining here… my wife went two weeks back and, I don’t know maybe it was the hype but she ranked it behind DiFara and about the same as Franny’s.
we’re in love in Amorina in PH; it’s a jewel.
Yes, you’re right. It’s awful. Please don’t go there. Shorter waits for me.
plain pies are $24. i think calzones are $10 but they are huge. the don’t charge a corkage fee though. still, it’s pretty pricey for a pizza joint, though the pizza is dam good. i live around the corner though, and can’t believe the lines for the place. all the manhattanites getting dropped off in front by their cabs. i guess it’s on a bunch of top pizza in NYC lists, so tons of tourists. hence the high prices.
Okay, this is really upsetting. Lucali’s has freaking awesome pizza.
The one time I went there I felt I was totally being “shook down”..60+ bucks for 2 pies and a calzone. I think we had to pay a fee for bringing in our own beer as well.
The mob lawyer’s quote is priceless. The trick is to be able to say that with a straight face.
