In the wake of last week’s shooting at the corner of Putnam and Grand Avenues, Councilmember Tish James is holding a press conference to raise awareness and, hopefully, call for more attention and crime-fighting resources for this corner of Clinton Hill. Despite decades of blatant drug dealing and violence on this corner, the 88th Precinct has either been unwilling or unable to clean it up for good. The event will be held in the triangular island formed by Grand, Putnam and Fulton at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Rain location: The Senior Citizen Center across the street at 966 Fulton Street.
Meanwhile across town, Councilmember Bill de Blasio and Assemblyman Jim Brennan host a forum at P.S. 154 tomorrow night from 5 to 7 p.m. about the recent robberies and murder in Windsor Terrace. The event takes place at PS 154, 1625 11th Avenue.

The time of the press conference really does suck but I do applaud the efferts of the local leaders. Something has to be done about that corner.
Hopefully it will make the local news and shine some light on the 88th precinct and their tomfoolery.
Oh, and by the way ….it’s not about race or the ghetto. This a safety and drug issue. Drugs are being used by all walks of life in Clinton Hill, both the old and the newcomers.

I agree, but there were quite a few like that (I quoted that one literally) in the thread last week. We should really all work together to make the streets safer for ourselves and our children.

I’m a black person, and that statement is just about the stupidest thing I’ve heard this year.
I agree on the 4 pm time as being ridiculous, since it will cut out “regular” working people of all races… Only ones in attendance will be drug dealers and yuppie freelancers….
Could the person who commented “Drug dealing and shootings are a way of life in the ghetto, perhaps for cultural reasons that you white yuppies just can’t understand” come to the rally and elaborate on what “cultural” has to do with 10 years old being burned in their homes in NJ or 15 years old shot in the Rockaways? I am sure James would be intested, and whiteys too!
