Closing Bell: Busted in Bay Ridge
The blog Beehive Hairdresser stumbled across a ticket issued to the owner of a defunct gas station at the corner of 81st Street and 3rd Avenue…and comes away giving Mayor Mike a thumbs up for sticking it to the quality-of-life scofflaw: “$350.00 for being jerks and not clearing the snow off of a long corner…

NYC Snow Summons! [Beehive Hairdresser]
wait, is that the Mobil? I walked by there less than 2 weeks ago and it was open. What happened? Crap, that was my “local” gas station. 🙁
The kitty little will make it a little muddy and safer to walk on.
A ten dollar ice scraper and a little bit of force can clear a whole front walk in a couple of minutes though.
the fine is for $100, it is $350 if it does not get paid on time
Kitty litter will help keep you from falling, but I don’t think it does anything to melt the ice.
you know else are jerks who dont shovel snow and ice? those Annies Garden people!!! i nearly fell the other day! also whoever owns the old Playa place on the corner of 5th and i forgot what street that closed down. there is a constant stream of water from a hose? trickling down the sidewalk and there is always a sheet of ice.
i saw some old lady throwing cat litter on the ice and snow the other day.. hahah does that work?
*rob*
IMO it was right to issue this summons but, unfortunately it won’t result in getting the sidewalk cleared and will likely only end up as another unpaid lien on the property.
NBC Channel 4 was hounding the cops at some precincy a few days ago when the snow wasn’t shoveled in front, yet they were issuing tickets to neighbors.
Who is supposed to shovel and salt sidewalks at an overpass? The city I presume? The sidewalk on the Prospect Expressway on 5th Ave between 17th Street and Prospect Avenue NEVER NEVER EVER gets shoveled or salted. EVER. I’m sick and tired of busting my big ass when walking there.
Not mention all of the abandoned development sites where the owner, of course, doesn’t bother to make sure walks are shoveled. Some treacherous passages in S. Slope.
