Today The Brooklyn Paper ran the image above of the sculpture of Miss Brooklyn and Miss Manhattan that will “soon perch on a rotating platform high above Flatbush Avenue as part of a redesign of the so-called Gateway to the Borough.” The article says the work, which is designed by artist Brian Tolle, will be located at the Flatbush Avenue Extension median just south of Tillary Street, near the entrance to the Manhattan Bridge.
First Look at Artist’s ‘Gateway’ to Brooklyn [BK Paper] GMAP
Can’t wait to see the first jackknifed tractor-trailer hit it, or one of the cabs that comes flying down the Manhattan Bridge entrance pissed that they have to take a fare to Brooklyn. What a unnecessary boondoggle. A rotating statue, how about a White Castle sign or something for Lee Myles Transmissions?
OMG. I hope the plantings look nice. A rotating statue? I am CRINGING with embarassment. They really couldn’t think of a better use of the money? How about some nice tulip bulbs?
lol
Gives the phrase “sit and spin” a whole new meaning.
the rotating could be a distraction for drivers and peds and cause accidents, no?
*rob*
East New York (comment #1) – exactly what I was thinking.
Are these the statues that were once on the Manhattan Bridge and later moved to the Brooklyn Museum? Rotating in mid air?
Yeah, they’re kidding.
They have to be.
Aren’t they?
I say we move “Rough Boy” here. Now THAT’S Brooklyn!
How do we get those huge roses or something similar like they have in Manhattan? Where are they Park Avenue? Really nifty. I’m a sucker for those oversized things like that.
Tacky. Very tacky. Did my taxes pay for that?
