Demolition for the beautiful church building at 261 Skilllman Street, at Bedford, began this fall and it wasn’t entirely clear if the developer would save the front portion of the church. (The back portion of the church was long gone, and the DOB also issued permits for an interior demo.) Checking in yesterday, it seems as if construction reached a standstill. Some excavation work’s obviously gone on, but no actual building. The front facade remains untouched — see a picture of it after the jump. The DOB approved some permits in November for structural work and a building enlargement. We’re assuming that a big addition will be tacked on in the back of the building, enough to fit the 48 units planned. The architect is Karl Fischer. Any hope that this will actually look good when all is said and done?
