Cellars Space for Rent
It’s been sitting empty for quite a while, but as far as we know the For Rent sign on the front door of Cellars at 250 Dekalb Avenue is new. Given what a prime corner location this in on the best restaurant and dining strip in Fort Greene, this is big news. Let’s hope it…

With the recent loss of Bonita, we’d suggest a really high-quality, family-friendly Mexican place! GMAP
Heather, maybe you should offer the kid a few shots to chill out
What is wrong with a bar that has screaming children running around in it and Dora playing on the television?
Oh, right, that’s my living room.
Anyone tried the Bonita replacement on Bedford yet?
Alibi is alive and well about 30 steps from this place. IT is about as much of a “bar bar” as can be. Would be a little whacky to open a watering hole right here when there are many more locations more in need.
1910 – Yes, the Alibi, that’s the place. Still there last I checked. No the 2nd Cellars was across the street from Two Steps Down.
Brownstoner – I think the calls for adults only is because pretty much every food joint on that strip is “somewhere where you feel welcome bringing the kids at 6 o’clock and where there are a couple of items on the menu that work for them…”
My 4 year old has eaten at every spot over there, so its not like families are lacking in choices.
Bar food’s nice and all, but it would encourage families to pop in and it’d be nice to avoid that. If the drunks are hungry they can buy a bag of chips from the bartender.
I hope these aren’t the same people complaining that Brooklyn Bridge park was for kids only.
In Europe, there’s no such thing as “family friendly” restaurants. They are just, err, restaurants. When I take my kids to dinner, they sit at the table and eat their food and we have a quiet conversation. They are always polite to the wait staff and I would expect no less of them. They have never run around or gone to anyone else’s table and they are much less obtrusive than many a loud voiced adult. (In my experience of any and all restaurants, there is inevitably at least one adult talking loudly on the phone, or just behaving in general as if everyone wants to hear their conversation)
Children don’t need any special treatment in a restaurant. They just need parents that insist they behave appropriately.
Hey, we’re not talking about a place with a kiddie corner–just somewhere where you feel welcome bringing the kids at 6 o’clock and where there are a couple of items on the menu that work for them…
Crazypants – Is the Alibi Bar what you were thinking about? Is it still around? It was a Pratt Student and old man bar type hangout back in the day (80’s)and Cellars drew a different more upscale adult crowd. Was Cellars and Two Steps Down the same location? If so a new bar in the location wouldn’t compete with Alibi.
YES! Adult Friendly. Good neighborhood Bar is def needed.
