Cash For Gold Pops Up on Flatbush Ave.
A “Cash for Gold” business is opening up near the corner of Flatbush and St. Marks in a space that was previously occupied by a hair-braiding salon. It’s a few blocks away from the controversial Prime Six restaurant site, and will perhaps be a good way to fund bottle service once the club opens up……

I had two broken gold pocket watches and my wife had broken and unused stuff too and I went to one of the hotels last year where one of the companies was buying gold and I sold it to them. They deal in all cash. It was kind of nefarious but fun.
Gold was at something like $1200 and ounce then. Now it’s even higher. It’s dumb not to cash in the stuff that is useless.
Believe me, there were all sorts of people there.
So, now it’s classist and borderline racist to dislike pawn shops?
Someone tell the folks at Nostrand Park–they weren’t exactly rolling out the welcome matt for the pawn shop opening on Franklin Avenue.
It’s not snobbish to suggest that pawn shops are bad for a neighborhood, but it is to suggest that they belong in someone else’s neighborhood.
I don’t think it’s classist or racist to be less-than-thrilled about the arrival of a Cash for Gold storefront in your neighborhood. They are clearly designed to extract wealth from a neighborhood. Not to add any benefit to the community.
However, they are better than Check Cashing establishments. Which should be renamed “We steal Social Security and Disability checks from the mentally and physically disabled in your community. And we allow thugs, bullies, and drug dealers to extort from the homeless, whatever we can’t get our grubby little hands on first. We prey on the weak amongst you, but you are too self-centered and callous to try and stop us,” stores.
Admittedly, that name is a little long to fit on a sign.
Rob- you nailed it on snobbishness. Although I bet MM loved the opportunity to give you a little dig 🙂
hahahahha point duly noted. but ive never claimed not to be a hypocrite

“DH, it has nothing to do with race, it has to do with a lot of people on this website who stick their noses up in the air and look down upon people who use establishments that they consider, trashy and low rent, and classless.
it runs the gamut from fedders buildings to non MF-infested neighborhoods to real bodegas and hair salons.
it’s more about obvert snobbishness than racism or anything like that.

Ah the irony!
DH, it has nothing to do with race, it has to do with people on this website who stick their noses up in the air and look down upon people who use establishments that they consider upscale, yuppie hangouts and classless.
It runs the gamut from new condos to landmarked neighborhoods to boutiques and ice cream parlours.
it’s more about reverse snobbishness than racism or anything like that.
What else will they be doing? I heard that everyone who already had gold lying around has gotten rid of it.
Wait Rob – so you’re saying it’s not cool to rag on establishments that open that you’re not likely to use?
