Brownstoner's Top 10 Instagram Picks From Afropunk 2017

Fabulous late summer weather ensured packed crowds for Brooklyn’s Afropunk Fest this past weekend. Since it first launched in 2005, the two-day musical event has been known as much for its for culturally diverse lineups as for the vibrant, free-spirited energy of the festival-goers.

The festival has also expanded beyond Brooklyn, with events in Atlanta, Paris, London and, for the first time this year, Johannesburg. Tickets for the Brooklyn event sold out quickly and Commodore Barry Park, on the edge of Fort Greene, was packed with thousands soaking in the music, art, food and statement-making fashion celebrating alternative black culture. Those thousands included Spike Lee, who popped up across Instagram in photos with attendees and performers.
